What’s the Biggest Casino in Michigan?

Sometimes less is more. But when it comes to casinos, let’s face it, more is more.

Size is only one consideration when you’re thinking about where to gamble. But, other things being equal, you’ll want the casino with the most slots, the most extensive gaming floor, the widest selection of entertainment options, and the greatest hotel room availability.

So, what’s the biggest casino in Michigan? That depends on what, exactly, you’re looking for.

Michigan has a total of 15 casino operators – 12 tribal and three commercial. Each of these also has an online casino partner. Additionally, many tribal operators have multiple locations, although there’s usually one clear flagship property.

Biggest Gaming Floor in Michigan: Soaring Eagle

Michigan’s tribal casinos have one crucial advantage over the commercial casinos in Detroit. Outside of the city, there’s plenty of room to build.

The biggest of the big is the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mount Pleasant. Owned by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, Soaring Eagle wins the size battle on pretty much every metric you can name.

It has the state’s:

  • Largest gaming floor, at 210,000 square feet
  • Most slots, with over 3,300 machines
  • Largest casino hotel, with 516 rooms

On the other hand, it was the state’s last entry into the online casino space. Eagle Casino & Sports only launched this spring.

Runners-Up: FireKeepers and Four Winds

Two other Michigan tribal casinos have gaming floors with six-figure square footage. Four Winds clocks in at 130,000 and FireKeepers at 112,000. FireKeepers packs more slots into that space, though, with around 2,900 to Four Winds’ 2,200.

Depending on where you’re coming from, either of these might be easier to get to. Soaring Eagle is smack in the middle of the state, over a two-hour drive from Detroit.

FireKeepers is slightly closer to Detroit but much further south and, therefore, more accessible for visitors from Indiana or Ohio.

Four Winds, though, is right in the state’s southwestern corner. For those popping over from Chicago, or northwestern Indiana, it’s practically next door.

Biggest Commercial Casino in Detroit: a Three-Way Tie

What if you don’t want to leave Detroit? There, you have three casinos to choose from. And if size is what you care about, all three are equivalent options, with about 100,000 square feet of gaming floor, 2700-3000 slots and 400 hotel rooms apiece:

  • MGM Grand Detroit
  • Greektown Casino
  • MotorCity Casino

Biggest Michigan Online Casino: BetMGM

For online play, it’s not even close. BetMGM Online Casino is hands-down the market leader. It’s the top dog nationally as well, but its dominance in Michigan is indisputable. Even with 15 brands to choose from, 1 in 3 Michiganders is playing at BetMGM.

It’s also got the biggest games catalog, with over 600 slots and nearly 700 games in total.
