A pair of Michigan women turned instant scratch-off tickets into $1 million recently. The Michigan Lottery announced the two separate $1 million winners within the past week.
The first was won playing The Big Spin, while the second was won playing Sizzling Hot 7s. Both women chose to remain anonymous.
Wayne County woman wins $1 million playing The Big Spin
On March 2, the Michigan Lottery announced that a 48-year-old woman from Wayne County won $1 million playing The Big Spin scratch off game.
The winning ticket was purchased on a whim at R & N Fast Track, located at 24344 Ecorse Road in Taylor.
“Me and my husband were watching TV one night, and I got a random urge to go buy a lottery ticket,” the woman told the Michigan Lottery. “I told my husband about this lucky feeling, so we went out and bought a few tickets and I scratched them when we got home. When I saw I’d won $1 million on my The Big Spin ticket, I called for my daughter and husband and had them look the ticket over. I’m still in shock and get shaky at the thought of winning $1 million!”
The woman elected to receive her prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000, and said she plans to buy a house and save the rest.
More than $13 million has been won playing The Big Spin, which returned to lottery retailers this past September. Big Spin tickets are $10, with the top prize being $1 million. There are still two $1 million prizes up for grabs, as well as four $10,000 prizes and 120 $1,000 prizes.
It had included a second chance promotion to spin a wheel live on television with former Detroit Piston John Salley, but that promotion has ended.
Michigan Lottery Sizzling Hot 7s makes another millionaire
Four days after The Big Spin winner was announced, the Michigan Lottery announced another new millionaire. This was a 30-year-old woman from Clinton County who won while playing the Sizzling Hot 7s scratch-off instant game.
Her ticket was purchased at Hansen’s Quik Stop, located at 8998 East M-21 in Ovid.
“I always play the new instant tickets when they come out each month,” she told the Michigan Lottery. “I was at the store one night and decided to buy two of the Sizzling Hot 7’s tickets since it is a newer game. I scratched the tickets when I got in my car and thought they were both non-winners, so I put them in a bag with some other garbage to throw away.
“The next morning, I decided to look the tickets over one more time before throwing them away. When I saw I’d won $1 million, my heart started racing and I thought I was going to faint. I called my mom and my husband right away to tell them the good news! I am so glad I decided to look the ticket over again before throwing it away.”
Like the previous player, this woman elected for the lump sum of about $693,000, and plans to buy a house and invest the rest.
Sizzling Hot 7s just launched in January, but players have won more $15 million on the game. Tickets are $10 at Michigan Lotto retailers, and $1 million is the top prize. Two of those top prizes remain, as do 20 $10,000 prizes and 175 $2,000 prizes.
