Online sports betting isn’t live yet in Michigan, but bettors in the Wolverine State can still place wagers at the state’s legal retail sportsbooks.
The COVID-19 pandemic halted the progress of Michigan’s live sports betting industry for several months, but with the fall sports season in full swing, several retail sportsbooks are taking bets throughout the state.
Detroit Commercial Casino Sportsbooks
MGM Grand Detroit (BetMGM Sports Lounge)
After nearly five months shuttered due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MGM Grand Detroit reopened for business on August 7. That resumption of normal operations brought with it a second reopening of sorts for the BetMGM Sports Lounge.
The on-property sportsbook and lounge features 14 self-service kiosks, six betting windows, and 60 high-definition TVs. The MGM Grand Detroit operates as Michigan’s largest casino.
MotorCity Casino Hotel (FanDuel Sportsbook)
FanDuel powers the retail sports betting services offered at Detroit’s MotorCity Casino Hotel. The officially titled FanDuel Sportsbook at MotorCity Casino Hotel offers a two-story sports betting facility, with 67 HD screens, 54 self-service kiosks, and six betting windows.
FanDuel Sportsbook will also launch an online platform in Michigan in partnership with MotorCity Casino Hotel. That platform could go live by the end of the year.
Greektown Casino-Hotel (Barstool Sportsbook)
Barstool Sportsbook will likely emerge as one of the biggest sports betting brands in the US over the course of the next few years. Greektown Casino is currently transforming its existing retail sports betting area into the first Barstool-branded physical sportsbook in the US.
That transformation isn’t complete yet, but for now, bettors can visit the casino and find The Sportsbook at Greektown Casino-Hotel. The venue offers four betting windows and 40 kiosks.
Tribal Casino Sportsbooks
Four Winds Casinos (Four Winds Sportsbook)
The Four Winds Casinos brand includes three different properties within Michigan. All three offer an on-property sportsbook, with the biggest of the three featured at the Four Winds New Buffalo location (18 betting kiosks).
The other two properties (Four Winds Hartford and Four Winds Dowagiac) each offer six self-service kiosks.
FireKeepers Casino & Hotel (Dacey’s Sportsbook)
FireKeepers Casino became the first of Michigan’s tribal casinos to open an in-house branded live sportsbook. Dacey’s Sportsbook opened for business on June 22, 2020, on the Battle Creek-based property.
Scientific Games powers the technology behind Dacey’s Sportsbook, but the venue marks the first tribal sportsbook not partnered with a third-party sports betting operator like DraftKings or FanDuel. Dacey’s Sportsbook offers live betting windows and 14 kiosks, with only the kiosks available for use at the moment.
Little River Casino & Resort (River Rock Sportsbook)
River Rock Sportsbook & Grill offers dining and live sports betting at the same venue. The sportsbook features live betting windows, as well as 12 self-service betting stations.
Rush Street Interactive provides the technology for the sportsbook, and that partnership will also yield a BetRivers online sportsbook at some point. Little River Casino can be found in Manistee and is owned by the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians.
Gun Lake Casino (Stage 131 Sportsbook & Lounge)
Located in Wayland, Gun Lake Casino opened its retail sportsbook just as the fall sports season got rolling. Stage 131 Sportsbook opened for business Oct. 3.
The Stage 131 Sportsbook is operated through a partnership with Gun Lake Casino and Parx Casino. Parx Casino will also eventually launch an online sportsbook in Michigan under the Gun Lake Casino license.
Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel (Onyx Sportsbook by William Hill)
Turtle Creek Casino is one of two Michigan tribal properties owned by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. Located in Williamsburg, Turtle Creek Casino features Onyx Sportsbook by William Hill on the casino floor.
Onyx Sportsbook offers 20 HD televisions, as well as self-service kiosks throughout the Turtle Creek Casino property.
Leelanau Sands Casino (Onyx Sportsbook by William Hill)
Another property owned by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, Leelanau Sands Casino is located on Peshawbestown. The property currently offers self-service betting kiosks powered by Onyx Sportsbook by William Hill.
Island Casino & Resort (BetAmerica)
The Harris-based Island Casino Resort opened its retail sportsbook in September. The tribal casino brought in BetAmerica as its sports betting partner.
BetAmerica Sportsbook at Island Casino & Resort features 14 kiosks and a live betting station. The Island Casino-BetAmerica partnership will eventually yield online sports betting as well.
