DraftKings Opening Sportsbook Lounge at Somerset Collection

The nation’s first DraftKings Sports & Social lounge will open at Somerset Collection in Troy on Dec. 1. The new venue is a joint venture of DraftKings and Live! Hospitality & Entertainment, which operates Somerset Collection, a premier shopping destination in southeast Michigan.

Michigan sports bettors will be able to watch and wager on sporting events in the DraftKings Sports & Social, as well as enjoy food and drinks.

A press release calls the venue “a high-energy, first-class dining and entertainment experience.” The 10,400-square-foot space is located in a building connected to Somerset Collection South. Entry to the DraftKings Sports & Social is accomplished from a door outside the shopping area.

Visitors to the lounge can use their mobile devices to connect to DraftKings and place sports bets while watching many events on large TVs and imbibing at the gastropub. DraftKings plans to roll out similar venues in other states in the future.

DraftKings Sportsbook Grand Opening set for Dec. 1

Put a pin in your calendar for Thursday, Dec. 1, when DraftKings will hold a grand opening for the Sports & Social lounge, the first of its kind in the United States. While DraftKings has debuted sports betting lounge areas in retail sportsbooks in Michigan and other states, this is the first time a betting-branded gastropub and lounge has been launched in a non-gaming environment.

Because the location is not accepting sports bets via kiosks or betting windows, DraftKings Sports & Social does not require a license from the state as an operator. Use of the DraftKings sports betting app is however regulated under Michigan law. Since the state launched legal sports betting in 2020, more than $7.9 billion in total handle has been reported. Much of that has been via mobile sports betting since Jan. 2021.

“Our core mission with DraftKings Sports & Social is to ‘raise the sports bar’ and set the new standard for dining and sports entertainment,” Scott Steenrod, COO of Live! Hospitality & Entertainment said in a statement earlier this week. “Forging this strategic relationship with DraftKings, an industry leader in sports betting, has allowed us to create an iconic entertainment and dining destination where sports entertainment and sports betting will come together to create a truly premier experience. We’re thrilled for the public to experience the venue first-hand at the height of the NFL and college football seasons.”

Visitors can place wagers easily via their cell phones, and play the popular DraftKings daily fantasy sports games. There are rooms available for rental, so avid fans could even hold their fantasy drafts or Super Bowl parties at the venue. And whenever there are sports taking place, the games are bound to be available for viewing.

Food, Drinks, and Very Large Screen TVs

What’s better than a great sandwich and your favorite beer? Both of those things while you’re watching sports on a 32-foot wall of sporting entertainment.

The most impressive physical feature of the DraftKings Sports & Social is a gigantic 32-foot LED media wall, which can broadcast several live sporting events in a smorgasbord for a sports fan’s eyeballs. With the Michigan Wolverines set to play in the Big Ten Conference Championship Game, and probably a College Football Playoff game, a screen that large with that many options can be as amazing as a win over your bitter rival.

On non-game days or during party times, the Sports & Social will host live music and entertainment, including DJs, competitions, and more with visual effects and light shows. There’s really nothing like it in Troy or in that area of the state.

The very first DraftKings Sports & Social won’t leave your taste buds unsatisfied: an “elevated gastropub menu” will offer made-from-scratch food items seven days a week. Never again will you have to time your run to the kitchen for a snack, because the Sports & Social staff has your stomach covered. Menu items will include classic pub fare like burgers, nachos, wings, and much more.

Thanks to the liquor license, enjoy one of many Sports & Social signature Crush cocktails or the many beers available on tap. Of course, this is Michigan, known for microbrews, so expect plenty of local drink favorites.

Canines Welcome

DraftKings Sports & Social at Somerset Collection will have a one-of-a-kind dog-friendly outdoor patio where four-legged and two-legged customers can enjoy a beverage, music, and Michigan’s beauty.

The facility also features areas for basketball, skeeball, shufflepuck, Beirut, and foosball, as well as popular arcade games.
