Online Gambling At MGM Grand Detroit In 2021

Last year, Michigan’s governor signed legislation to legalize sports betting and online gambling. It’s a big sea change that MGM Grand Detroit is taking advantage of by offering retail sports betting as of March 2020. In fact, MGM Grand Detroit hosted a VIP reception on the day sports betting became legal in their BetMGM Sports Lounge. The sportsbook lounge currently has 6 betting windows and 14 self-service betting kiosks where players can place their bets.

According to the Michigan Gaming Control Board, online gambling including sports betting could launch by the end of 2020.

MGM Resorts operates online sports betting and casino platforms in several states under the BetMGM Brand. BetMGM functions as a product of Roar Digital, which itself is a partnership of MGM Resorts and GVC Holdings. BetMGM online sportsbook and casino platforms will also eventually go live in Michigan. MGM Grand Detroit will likely also license a Michigan-only version of the partypoker online poker platform.

MGM Grand Detroit History

MGM Resorts International owns and operates the MGM Grand Detroit. It is one of 17 casinos and resorts owned or leased by MGM Resorts International throughout the world. This includes the MGM Grand Las Vegas, Bellagio, and the Borgata in Atlantic City.

The MGM Grand Detroit first opened as a temporary casino in 1999 in downtown Detroit. It wasn’t until 2007 that the permanent hotel and casino opened after a large-scale renovation by MGM Resorts.

A few years after it opened, the Detroit casino was almost sold as MGM bought Mandalay Resort Group, which owned the MotorCity Casino in Detroit. Michigan only allows companies to own one casino in the state, so they had to sell one of them. There were several potential buyers for the MGM Grand Detroit, but in the end, the company decided to sell MotorCity Casino to Marian Ilitch.

Players can use their points towards comps, free play, and items at the gift shop. It’s also possible to use points towards MLife Moments, which are special events available to program members. These vary from swimming with the dolphins to a day at the spa for you and three friends.

There are five tiers to the MLife Rewards Program:
